Terre Rouge Ascent Syrah 2014
Syrah from Sierra Foothills, California
Winemaker Notes
Terre Rouge had a pleasant early season, with an average growing season, and decent yields in most fields. As well, the grapes had typical cluster morphology. Harvest was about normal time for their Syrah vineyards and the finished wines have a plush, elegant, and silky texture. This wine will benefit from several years of bottle age, as was intended by the winemaker.
Wine Enthusiast – 94 Points
This Syrah is Terre Rouge’s flagship, and it lives up to its reputation with more complexity and spiciness than the other wines in the portfolio. It’s earthy and oaky in aroma yet full of indulgent flavor—drenched with dark berry and dark chocolate notes and cedar, anise and new leather accents. Full bodied and memorable, it has wonderful layering and a lingering, spicy finish.
Food Pairing
Pairs well with Toulouse sausages served with herb mash, shallot gravy, and crispy onion, as well as a ribeye steak with roquefort sauce.
